This Glacier is one of the three places in the World that inspired me the most in my explorations!
The Perito Moreno Glacier is located in the “Los Glaciares National Park”. It is the south-west Province of Argentina, called Santa Cruz.
The ice formation covers 250km2 with 30 kilometres in length and a height of more than 60 meters above the water level.
This ice field is the world’s third largest reserve of fresh water.
The Glacier is one of the most important tourist attractions in the Argentinian Patagonia.
The closest town El Calafate is situated only 78Kilometres from the Glacier Perito Moreno.
In 1981 UNESCO declared Los Glaciares National Park as the Natural Heritage of Humanity.
HOW TO GET TO THE PERITO MORENO GLACIER
Travelling From Chile:
If you are traveling as a backpacker in the Chilean Patagonia then the best way is to take a bus from Puerto Natales.
It takes around 6 hours to get to El Calafate, (always depends on time spend on the border).
This town is place where you can stay for a night as it has great range of accommodation as hostel, hotel, Air B&B etc.
Once you decide to Stay in El Calafate for 2 days, you will have plenty of time to enjoy amazing the Perito Moreno Glacier, take boat tour or even do trekking.

If you have little time for visit, then it is recommended taking full day tour from Puerto Natales in Chile.
Full day tour from Puerto Natales in Chile in details.
The tour starts around 6AM picking you up from your accommodation point and arriving back to the town of Puerto Natales around midnight.
The idea of starting the trip early is being first on the border with Argentina in order to avoid long car lines.
The tour will arrive before 7AM on the border, if you are lucky, you will be first for passports control, (we did in my tour).
It still takes around 6hours from the border to reach El Calafate and later the Perito Moreno Glacier.
Once arriving there, everyone has to pay entrance to the Los Glaciares National Park. It is not included in any tour. See below the prices of the entrance.
