Pucón, capital of adventure in Chile
Pucón is a small town, located approximately 800km (12 hours by bus) from Santiago.
This town is a capital of the adventure tourism in Chile.

From the town, the volcano looks amazing and seems quite easy to hike. From the very first steeps it is not an easy trekking, but absolutely worth to hike to the top.
How to get to Pucón?
There are two possibilities of getting to Pucon.
Prices are almost the same for both companies, but you booking in advance is always better to get better price.
Another option is to book a flight to the closest airport in Temuco, la Araucanía International Airport and later take a bus to Pucon. It is around 80km from the airport to Pucon.
Flying to Temuco is not cheap as there are no daily flights available.
Hiking to the top of Villarrica Volcano, your journey
The journey starts at around 6am. Your guide will pick you up at your place and will drive you to the meeting point where you can wear all the necessary equipment to hike to the top.
Then quickly changing cloths and preparing equipment, last adjustments and then, here we go! The adventure begins!
With full of enthusiasm and energy, the expedition begins. As the top of the volcano seems to be close by, it is not!
There is still up to 5 hours of heavy hiking to the crater.
Book your hiking with qualified guide
After the last eruption in 2015, there were some restrictions regarding hiking to the Volcano. The places are limited per day.
There are only 160 places per day where 40 are guides.
One guide can hike with only 4 tourists with all of the professional equipment.
It is not an easy trekking but definitely worth to be tired while reaching the Crater.
Remember that due to the restrictions of the hiking it is better to be in contact with an agency and book your tour in advance. Sometimes in the high season, the places are booked in advance.
How much does it cost to hike the volcano?
The price is always the same and it costs between 80.000CLP and 85.000CLP (high season up to 100.000CLP), chilean peso.

When is the best time to hike Villarrica Volcano?
Best time for Climbing Villarrica Volcano is Summer in Chile, (southern hemispere) from December to February.
During this time, the weather will be the best so you will have a better chance of reaching the top of the Villarrica Volcano.
